1). What is Shot Blasting?
Answer: It is a machine that in one application can clean and profile
concrete floors in preparation for new coatings. It also removes surface
buildup and adds an anti-skid surface, all while leaving the floor
totally dry and free of chemical residues.
2). Can shot blasting remove old paint coatings?
Answer: Yes, shot blasting can remove thin paint coatings, tile adhesive,
and carpet adhesives.
3). If I have a new or clean concrete floor, do I need to have it shot
blasted?
Answer: Yes, manufacturers of paint coatings recommend a floor to be
shot blasted prior to the application of their coatings. They may not
warranty their coating from failure if not shot blasted first, due to
the lack of adhesion.
4). Can't I acid etch my floor to achieve adhesion of paint coatings?
Answer: Yes, if the concrete has never been painted or sealed before
acid etching will work. Since acid reacts to the laitance in concrete
if the floor has ever been sealed before than acid will not work. Remember
the paint manufacturers may not warranty their coatings from failure
if acid etched.
